Narrative
From A Genealogical Dictionary of the first settlers of New England by James Savage, Vol 2
HACKETT, Jabez, Lynn 1644, rem to Taunton, there had John, b. 26 Dec 1654; Jabesh, 12 Sept 1656; Mary, 9 Jan 1660; SARAH, 13 Jul 1661; Samuel,29 Jul 1664; and Hannah, 25 Jan 1667.
NOTE: Since Lynn was the location of the Saugus Iron Works which had gotten underway about 1644 when Hackett is noted as having been of that place, it would seem logical that he had removed from Lynn as an ironworker, after work had slowed at that place, to Taunton where a new start of the iron industry was beginning. He likely was associated with that industry himself. In the fall of 1652 the residents of Taunton invited Henry and James Leonard and Ralph Russell to join with a number of local residents in the erection of a 'bloomary work on the Two Mile River'. This fits with Jabez being in Taunton in 1654 when his son John was born.
